Thoughts On Good Writing
"A good style should show no sign of effort. What is written should seem like a happy accident." - W. Somerset Maugham
This quote asks me to be so authoritative a writer as to construct my thoughts to seem effortless like a “happy accident”.
Maugham's statement is eloquent, simple, yet profound at its core! Above all it challenges me to open an honest dialog with myself-to seek, in some way, my own measure of profundity.
Having thought about the idea for an extended period I am now guided toward sententious approaches. I therefore settle on the following vision to which I can anchor my creativity:
“A good style of writing ought to be akin to fleeting, deliberate, progressive acts of profound consequence!”
